# Prepare a staffing enquiry: a business checklist

A complete enquiry lists tasks, workplace, people per shift, dates and required skills. Use this checklist to collect information internally and identify outstanding questions before the first conversation.

## Headcount and period

Separate recurring demand from peak orders. Provide the start date, planned end date and the number of people needed at the same time per shift.

## Tasks instead of general labels

Describe what a person will actually do, such as picking goods or operating a particular machine. Add required qualifications and language skills.

## Workplace organisation

Name the contact person, shift times, induction and required protective equipment. State whether accommodation or transport should be discussed.

## Check demand per shift

Record each shift separately: task — people — hours — qualification — contact. Do not confuse headcounts across shifts with the number of people needed simultaneously. Mark replacement needs and quantities still to be determined.

## A template for your enquiry

Task: __. Workplace: __. People per shift: __. Shift hours: __. Start and duration: __. Required skills: __. Induction provided by: __. Travel or accommodation to discuss: __. Contact: __. Transfer this information to the enquiry form.

## Template: your staffing enquiry

- Workplace — Address and department
- Tasks — Specific steps and task boundaries
- Headcount — Headcount per shift, hours and weekdays
- Period — Preferred start, planned end and alternatives
- Required skills — Equipment, experience, communication and documents
- Induction — Who provides induction? What will be taught?
- Arrangements — Contact, tools, accommodation or transport
- Open questions — Unresolved requirements and intended model

## Record one shift completely

| Field | Example input |
| --- | --- |
| Task | Dispatch packing, no forklift work |
| Headcount | Four people needed simultaneously |
| Hours | Early shift; specify start and end in your enquiry |
| Skills | Define packing rules and required language |
| Preparation | Identify induction, equipment and a contact |

A hypothetical template. Replace it with your company’s actual plan.
